Cashmere MCP Tools

Updated December 4, 2025

To access protected or premium content in Cashmere—whether you want to use it inside an MCP client, within your applications, or through the Cashmere dashboard—you first need a content license. A license determines which collections you can access and how you’re permitted to use them.

NOTE: Even if you are the publisher of the content, you still need to issue yourself a license to access your content via MCP or API.

There are currently two ways to obtain a content license:

  1. Request a public license (available directly in the Cashmere dashboard)
  2. Receive a license directly from the publisher

This guide walks you through both methods.

1. Securing a Public License

Public licenses are collections that publishers have made openly licensable through Cashmere. These collections may be free or may have associated token costs depending on the publisher and content.

Step 1: Open the “License Content” Page

In the Cashmere dashboard, navigate to:

Left Sidebar → License Content

This page displays all public collections that you can license.

Step 2: Choose a Collection to License

You will see a list of available collections. For each collection, you’ll find:

Select any collection to view more details.

Step 3: Click “Create License”

On the collection details page, you’ll see a Create License button.

Click it to initiate the license request.

Step 4: Leave License Rights as Default

When prompted, leave the license rights at their default settings unless you have a specific agreement with the publisher that requires additional rights.

Submit your request.

Step 5: License Granted

After the license is granted:

At this point, the content becomes available to your applications and MCP clients based on your access rights.

2. Receiving a License Directly From a Publisher

Some publishers do not offer public licensing or require additional agreements before granting access. In these cases, the publisher must grant you a license manually.

How It Works

  1. Contact the publisher directly, provide them with the email on your Cashmere account

They will handle the approval, pricing, and terms.

  2. Publisher issues the license through Cashmere

Once approved, the publisher assigns the license to your Cashmere account.

  3. Your license appears automatically

The license will show up under:

    Left Sidebar → Licenses

You will not need to take any action inside the Cashmere dashboard—approval triggers your access automatically.

Confirming Your Licensed Content

Regardless of how you obtained your license:

This ensures that all access is fully authenticated and tied to your account permissions.

Summary

Method How It Works When to Use
Public License You request access from the “License Content” dashboard. For open or auto-approve collections; fastest option.
Publisher-Granted License Publisher assigns the license to your account directly. For premium, restricted, or negotiated content.

Once licensed, your content is available across the Cashmere platform and any MCP-compatible client connected to your account.
